Nel secondo appuntamento stagionale del FIA Karting European Championship il 16enne pilota lombardo lotta con grande ardore in tutte le manche di gara, proseguendo il suo positivo percorso di crescita al cospetto dei top driver della KZ2
Le difficoltà forgiano il carattere, aiutano a crescere e possono sicuramente costituire un importante bagaglio d’esperienza da conservare per il proprio futuro. Quanto imparato da Alex Zucco nel corso del secondo round stagionale del FIA Karting European Championship potrà tornare certamente utile per il giovane pilota di Buccinasco, alle prese con un week-end non facile dal punto di vista dei risultati conquistati anche in seguito ad una serie di imprevisti di carattere tecnico. Il 16enne portacolori del DR Racing Kart ha comunque lottato con il coltello tra i denti, non dandosi mai per vinto in un contesto che ha visto presenti sul Circuito Internazionale Napoli di Sarno i migliori interpreti della categoria KZ2 a livello internazionale.
Partito principalmente con l’obiettivo di proseguire il suo percorso di apprendistato nella disciplina, il pilota lombardo ha cercato di mettere in pratica quanto appreso nel corso della precedente esperienza sul tracciato partenopeo, maturata appena due settimane prima nella WSK Open Series. Zucco si è messo subito al lavoro con il consueto impegno in stretta sinergia con i tecnici del team, nonostante le condizioni di caldo torrido rendessero particolarmente difficile trovare il giusto compromesso tra il nuovo telaio utilizzato in questa occasione ed una differente mescola di gomme.
La sessione di qualifica ha infatti visto il pilota milanese ottenere il proprio best lap personale in 54.648, a poco più di un secondo dalla migliore prestazione assoluta ottenuta tra gli oltre settanta partecipanti al via della KZ2. La partenza dalle retrovie non ha comunque demoralizzato il grintoso pilota del team diretto da Danilo Rossi, il quale si è ben distinto nella prima batteria di qualificazione chiudendo al 14° posto dopo un bel recupero. La seconda batteria ha invece visto Alex purtroppo assente dalla griglia di partenza, in seguito ad un ritardo di qualche secondo verificatosi nelle fasi di preparazione tecnica del kart. Un’esitazione alla partenza ha poi tradito Alex nella terza sfida riservata ai gruppi C-D, con la frizione surriscaldatasi per via delle alte temperature che ha costretto il numero 338 a perdere secondi preziosi allo start: da quel momento la gara per lui è stata tutta in salita, con il 16° posto finale che non ha reso giustizia al potenziale sino a quel momento espresso.
Zucco ha poi tentato di rifarsi nella quarta e penultima batteria, ma un’altra partenza difficile gli ha impedito di fare meglio della 21esima posizione finale. La sequenza delle manche di qualificazione si è poi completata con il 17° posto conquistato nella sfida riservata ai piloti dei gruppi D-F.
Il week-end europeo di Sarno è poi entrato nel vivo con le gare in programma nella giornata di Domenica 9 Luglio: nella prova valida per l’accesso alla Finale, Zucco ha lottato senza mai mollare nel gruppo, concludendo la sua prestazione con un 25esimo posto assoluto (su quasi quaranta concorrenti al via) che però non gli ha consentito di accedere alla sfida finale che ha assegnato il titolo.
Alex Zucco (pilota DR Racing Kart): “E’ stato un week-end difficile, reso ancor più complicato dal grande caldo in pista. Per fortuna, grazie anche al programma di preparazione atletica che sto seguendo, i riscontri da questo punto di vista sono stati ottimali per quanto riguarda la mia resistenza e la mia prestazione in gara. Purtroppo abbiamo adottato dal punto di vista tecnico delle soluzioni che non hanno pagato, in quanto non siamo riusciti a trovare il giusto compromesso tra telaio, resa delle gomme e carburatore. In più, sono rimasto sorpreso allo start in un paio di occasioni per via della frizione surriscaldatasi per il grande caldo. Detto questo, non intendo accampare scuse: stiamo lavorando con grande intensità e può capitare che le cose non vadano come auspicato, ma bisogna anche dire che mai avrei pensato anche solo qualche mese fa di potermi misurare a questi livelli, insieme ai migliori piloti del mondo e dotati di un bagaglio d’esperienza nettamente superiori al mio. Quanto imparato nel week-end di Sarno mi tornerà certamente utile per continuare a crescere e migliorare: ringrazio il mio team DR Racing Kart per il grande lavoro svolto, così come tutti i miei sponsor e la mia famiglia per l’immancabile supporto. Adesso guardiamo avanti con fiducia e positività, sicuri che solo con il lavoro potremo continuare a progredire!”
Dopo l’appuntamento europeo di Sarno, Alex Zucco tornerà in azione nel fine settimana del 20-23 Luglio, in occasione della manifestazione ‘Road to Wackersdorf’ che si svolgerà presso l’omonimo kartodromo situato in Germania, utile per prepararsi al meglio in vista dell’importantissima sfida iridata che andrà in scena sullo stesso tracciato dal 7 al 10 Settembre.
A FIGHTING ALEX ZUCCO IN THE HOT EUROPEAN CHALLENGE OF SARNO

Difficulties forge character, help to grow and can certainly constitute an important baggage of experience to keep for one’s future. What Alex Zucco learned during the second round of the FIA Karting European Championship will certainly come in handy for the young driver from Buccinasco, struggling with a difficult weekend from the point of view of the results achieved even after a series of technical incidents. The 16-year-old driver of the DR Racing Kart however fought with a knife between his teeth, never giving up in a context that saw the best interpreters of the KZ2 category present on the International Circuit of Naples in Sarno.
Having started mainly with the aim of continuing his apprenticeship in the discipline, the Lombard driver tried to put into practice what he had learned during his previous experience on the Neapolitan track, gained just two weeks earlier in the WSK Open Series. Zucco immediately set to work with his usual commitment in close synergy with the team technicians, despite the scorching heat conditions making it particularly difficult to find the right compromise between the new chassis used on this occasion and a different tire compound.
In fact, the qualifying session saw the Milanese driver obtain his personal best lap in 54.648, just over a second from the best absolute performance obtained among the more than seventy participants at the start of KZ2. However, the departure from the rear did not demoralize the gritty driver of the team led by Danilo Rossi, who stood out well in the first qualifying heat, finishing in 14th place after a good recovery. The second heat instead saw Alex unfortunately absent from the starting grid, following a delay of a few seconds which occurred in the technical preparation phases of the kart. A hesitation at the start then betrayed Alex in the third challenge reserved for groups C-D, with the clutch overheating due to the high temperatures which forced the number 338 to lose precious seconds at the start: from that moment the race for him was all in climb, with the final 16th place that did not do justice to the potential expressed up to that moment.
Zucco then tried to make up for it in the fourth and penultimate heat, but another difficult start prevented him from doing better than the final 21st position. The sequence of qualifying heats was then completed with the 17th place conquered in the challenge reserved for the riders of groups D-F. The European weekend in Sarno then came alive with the races scheduled for Sunday 9 July: in the race valid for access to the Final, Zucco fought without ever giving up in the group, concluding his performance with a 25th absolute place (out of almost forty competitors at the start) which however did not allow him to access the final challenge which awarded the title.
Alex Zucco (DR Racing Kart driver): “It was a difficult weekend, made even more complicated by the heat on the track. Luckily, thanks also to the athletic training program I’m following, the feedback from this point of view has been excellent in terms of my resistance and my performance in competitions. Unfortunately we adopted solutions from a technical point of view that didn’t pay off, as we weren’t able to find the right compromise between chassis, tire performance and carburettor. In addition, I was surprised at the start on a couple of occasions by the clutch overheating in the heat. Having said that, I don’t intend to make excuses: we are working with great intensity and it may happen that things don’t go as hoped, but it must also be said that I never would have thought even just a few months ago that I would be able to compete at these levels, together with the best riders in the world and with a wealth of experience clearly superior to mine. What I learned during the weekend in Sarno will certainly come in handy to continue growing and improving: I thank my DR Racing Kart team for the great work done, as well as all my sponsors and my family for their unfailing support. Now let’s look forward with confidence and positivity, sure that only with work we can continue to progress!”
After the European appointment in Sarno, Alex Zucco will be back in action on the weekend of 20-23 July, on the occasion of the ‘Road to Wackersdorf’ event which will take place at the kart track of the same name located in Germany, useful for preparing for the best ahead of the very important world challenge that will be staged on the same track from 7 to 10 September
