ALEX ZUCCO LOTTA COME UN LEONE NELLA WSK OPEN SERIES A SARNO

Prestazione incoraggiante nella sfida sul tracciato partenopeo per il giovane portacolori DR Racing Kart, costretto ad arrendersi solo in Prefinale a causa di un danno riportato al kart durante le fasi di bagarre

Il quarto round stagionale della WSK Open Series va in archivio con un’altra prestazione in crescendo per Alex Zucco. Il giovane pilota milanese, impegnato sul Circuito Internazionale Napoli di Sarno al cospetto dei migliori specialisti a livello internazionale della categoria KZ2, si è infatti reso autore di un fine settimana ampiamente positivo che lo ha visto misurarsi ad altissimi livelli nel prestigioso appuntamento svoltosi sul tracciato che sorge ai piedi del Vesuvio.

Il portacolori del DR Racing Kart si è visto costretto ad arrestare il proprio percorso soltanto ad un passo dalla Finale, quando è stato costretto al ritiro in seguito al cedimento di una carena della pancia laterale, conseguenza dell’accesa bagarre che lo ha visto protagonista nel corso delle fasi iniziali. Al di là dello sfortunato epilogo, il 16enne di Buccinasco ha messo in mostra una costante escalation nel corso dell’evento svoltosi sul circuito partenopeo, svoltosi anche sotto l’attento sguardo del pilota Ferrari Charles Leclerc presente in tribuna.

A partire dalle giornate dedicate alle prove libere, Alex si è messo al lavoro in stretta collaborazione con i tecnici del team per individuare il corretto set-up e puntare a migliorare le proprie performance sul giro, in un appuntamento estremamente utile anche per prepararsi in vista del campionato europeo in programma sul medesimo tracciato dal 6 al 9 Luglio. Il gap rispetto ai più esperti compagni di squadra è andato progressivamente riducendosi, con Zucco che nella sessione che ha preceduto le qualifiche è arrivato ad ottenere un ottimo best lap personale in 54.108. Sfortunatamente, nell’appuntamento decisivo per determinare la griglia di partenza il riscontro cronometrico non è stato altrettanto positivo, costringendolo a dover impostare una strategia in modalità ‘full attack’ nelle manche eliminatorie.

Già a partire dalla prima batteria, Alex si è reso autore di una prova in crescendo che lo ha visto concludere in 22esima posizione assoluta, anche se una penalità post-gara di 5” (inflittagli per aver tagliato il traguardo con la parte anteriore del kart danneggiata in seguito ad un contatto) lo ha fatto retrocedere di due posti. Il grintoso pilota lombardo ha poi concluso la giornata di Venerdì con una splendida prestazione nella manche B-E, recuperando a suon di sorpassi ben otto posizioni durante la gara e chiudendo al 17° posto con un ottimo record personale sul giro in 53.859.

L’indomani Alex è tornato in pista per affrontare le ultime tre manche eliminatorie, in vista dell’appuntamento con la Prefinale previsto per la giornata conclusiva. Nella prima, Zucco ha concluso al 20° posto recuperando cinque posizioni in gara, dopo essere riuscito ad evitare per un soffio una carambola nelle concitate fasi dello start ma rimanendo successivamente coinvolto in un contatto che ha danneggiato l’assale del suo kart, condizionandone le prestazioni; nella seconda prova, per il pilota DR Racing Kart è arrivato un ritiro nelle battute iniziali in seguito ad una collisione con un avversario, mentre in quella conclusiva il numero 91 ha chiuso 17° con un best personale in 53.686, pur dovendo fare i conti con una nuova penalità di 5” a fine gara (inflittagli per il musetto caduto all’ultima curva) che lo ha fatto retrocedere al ventiduesimo posto.

In occasione della Prefinale, svoltasi di fronte ad una grande cornice di pubblico e trasmessa anche in diretta streaming, Alex Zucco è partito con grande determinazione dalle retrovie, guadagnando ben cinque posizioni nelle battute iniziali e puntando a proseguire la propria rimonta. Durante il tentativo di effettuare l’ennesimo sorpasso, un contatto con un altro pilota gli ha irrimediabilmente danneggiato la carena laterale del kart, costringendolo a rientrare ai box e ad alzare bandiera bianca. Un finale amaro, che però non cancella quanto di buono messo in mostra nel prestigioso palcoscenico della WSK Open Series.

Alex Zucco (pilota DR Racing Kart): “Sono soddisfatto per il bilancio complessivo del week-end, visti i grossi miglioramenti che abbiamo messo in atto dal mercoledì sino alla giornata conclusiva. Abbiamo lavorato in grande sintonia con il team ed i risultati si sono visti: purtroppo una sessione di qualifiche non all’altezza delle aspettative ha condizionato l’andamento delle manche eliminatorie costringendomi ad una posizione di partenza non in linea con le mie potenzialità, ma in tutte le gare i riscontri sono stati positivi con tanti sorpassi e delle ottime rimonte. Rimane l’amaro in bocca per la conclusione anticipata del week-end, in seguito ad un danno riportato ad una carena mentre ero impegnato in una fase di bagarre, ma sono cose che possono capitare quando si lotta con il coltello tra i denti. Adesso prendiamo quanto di buono fatto durante questo fine settimana per utilizzarlo in vista del campionato europeo, in occasione del quale partiremo con una buona base di partenza in termini di esperienza accumulata. Alex Zucco tornerà in azione nel secondo round stagionale del FIA Karting European Championship, in programma sul Circuito Internazionale Napoli dal 6 al 9 Luglio.

ALEX ZUCCO FIGHTS LIKE A LION IN THE WSK OPEN SERIES IN SARNO

Encouraging performance in the challenge on the Neapolitan track for the young DR Racing Kart driver, forced to give up only in the Prefinal due to damage sustained to the kart during the fighting phases

The fourth round of the WSK Open Series ends with another growing performance for Alex Zucco. The young Milanese driver, engaged on the Naples International Circuit of Sarno in the presence of the best international specialists in the KZ2 category, was in fact the author of a largely positive weekend that saw him compete at very high levels in the prestigious appointment held on the track rises at the foot of Vesuvius.

The DR Racing Kart driver was forced to stop his course only a step away from the Final, when he was forced to retire following the failure of a side belly hull, a consequence of the heated tussle that saw him protagonist in the course of the initial stages. Beyond the unfortunate epilogue, the 16-year-old from Buccinasco showed a constant escalation during the event held on the Neapolitan circuit, which also took place under the watchful eye of the Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc present in the grandstand.

Starting from the days dedicated to free practice, Alex got to work in close collaboration with the team technicians to identify the correct set-up and aim to improve his performance over the lap, in an extremely useful appointment also for preparing for the of the European championship scheduled on the same track from 6 to 9 July. The gap compared to his more experienced team mates gradually decreased, with Zucco achieving an excellent personal best lap in 54.108 in the session that preceded qualifying. Unfortunately, in the decisive appointment to determine the starting grid, the chronometric feedback was not as positive, forcing him to set up a strategy in ‘full attack’ mode in the preliminary heats.

Already starting from the first heat, Alex became the author of a growing test that saw him finish in 22nd position overall, even if a 5″ post-race penalty (inflicted on him for crossing the finish line with the front part of the kart damaged following a contact) pushed him back two places. The fast driver then concluded Friday with a splendid performance in heat B-E, recovering eight positions during the race with overtaking and finishing in 17th place with an excellent personal best lap in 53.859.

The following day Alex was back on track to face the last three heats, in view of the appointment with the Prefinal scheduled for the final day. In the first, Zucco finished in 20th place, recovering five positions in the race, after having managed to narrowly avoid a carom in the frenetic start phases but subsequently remaining involved in a contact which damaged the axle of his kart, conditioning its performance; in the second round, the DR Racing Kart driver retired in the initial stages following a collision with an opponent, while in the final round the number 91 finished 17th with a personal best in 53.686, despite having to deal with a new 5” penalty at the end of the race (inflicted on him for the crashed nose at the last corner) which made him relegate to twenty-second place.

During the Prefinal, held in front of a large audience and also broadcast in live streaming, Alex Zucco started with great determination from the rear, gaining five positions in the opening stages and aiming to continue his comeback. While trying to make yet another overtaking, a contact with another driver irreparably damaged the lateral fairing of the kart, forcing him to return to the pits and raise the white flag. A bitter ending, which however does not erase the good things shown on the prestigious stage of the WSK Open Series.

Alex Zucco (DR Racing Kart driver): “I am satisfied with the overall balance of the weekend, given the big improvements we made from Wednesday until the final day. We worked in great harmony with the team and the results showed it: unfortunately a qualifying session that didn’t live up to expectations conditioned the performance of the heats, forcing me to a starting position that was not in line with my potential, but in all the races the feedback was positive with many overtakings and excellent comebacks. A bitter taste remains in the mouth for the early conclusion of the weekend, following damage to a hull while I was engaged in a brawl, but these are things that can happen when you fight with a knife between your teeth. Now let’s take the good things done during this weekend and use them in view of the European championship, where we’ll start with a good starting point in terms of accumulated experience. Alex Zucco will be back in action in the second round of the FIA Karting European Championship, scheduled at the Circuito Internazionale Napoli from 6 to 9 July.
